Blog, Shmog

Which is appropriate writing from L.A. (even though, after the recent storm, there is not much shmog here...)

My mother is being discharged from the skilled nursing facility---tomorrow!!! A week early! Ineed, this is good news. After this long dramatic journey, she has pulled through and is well enough to come home. Whew.

Happy to have her coming home and I have been busting my butt to get her apartment cleared up enough for her to get around in a walker and her wheel chair. No small feat if you saw her apartment. And her return is sooner than anticipated, so I have not quite finished. I have made countless trips to Goodwill to release stuff. This will be quite an adjustment for her to come home. I think I am going to get her one of those personal alarms that have been advertised on TV (I've fallen and I can't get up...") because she will be alone here after I leave. Her tenants will be happy to have her home, too.

Being the grown-up is over-rated.

Happy Chinese New Year! It is the Year of the Pig and it began yesterday. Without any conscous effort on my part, I ended up wearing all red which is the color worn to celebrate. I don't know about you, I am not Chinese but I really appreciate the idea of a New Year right about now. This year has already been quite complex and full and the opportunity to join in consciousness for newness appeals to me. I don't look a gift year in the mouth.

And neighborhood rumour has it that there shall be another (new) Starbucks in the 'hood! Dan the Man, our resident Normal Heights guardian angel, thinks that the construction on Felton and Adams will transform into a new Starbucks. If that is true, I will be there with bells on for opening day. Not sure how Lestat's feels about this-- this is one aspect of the Starbucks corporation that does not amuse me. Now if we could only convince Starbucks to hire me as their resident concierge, hostess or chaplain....
